I’m working 4am-2pm this week (so my brain is a little frazzled) and I’m not smart enough to string together more than a few sentences. But I’ve had some down time and I’ve discovered some interesting healthy living links (that I thought I’d share):
- By 2030, it is estimated that 42% of American adults will be obese. On a positive note, obesity growth rates have declined and I went to the gym for the first time in a month.

- The Connection Between Eating Disorders, Obesity, and Our Food Supply: I’m really focusing on eating cleaner and eliminating processed garbage from my kitchen. I can tell that even on days I overeat (lots of Ezekiel 4:9 bread and peanut butter), I feel much better than if I were to eat Lean Cuisines and Snackwell cookies.
- Victoria of Victoria’s Obligatory Triathalon Blog (and District Chocoholic) is donating $50 to the National Alliance On Mental Illness for each person who complete the 50K in May swimming challenge. As this body isn’t going anywhere near a bathing suit, I’m going to make a personal donation. Mental illness is NOT a laughing matter nor is it appropriate to stigmatize individuals who struggle with mental illness.
- Has the Obama administration done enough to fight the obesity epidemic? Frankly, I think the First Lady has done a fantastic job with her Let’s Move program and her numerous appearances/speeches about nutrition education for young kids. However, I do believe it’s the massive food industry and agribusiness that is shoving crap food products down our throats. Frankly, the majority of Americans are on some kind of diet, yet we are still the fattest country with the most processed foods…obviously there is a correlation.
- Author, speaker, COE survivor, and vegan advocate Victoria Moran will be speaking at Busboys and Poets on Thursday, May 10 at 8pm to discuss her new book: Main Street Vegan. Will I be there, of course! So if you want to meet up, shoot me an email.
